My Year In Review and Behind the Scenes | Lifestyle Photographer

2017: A Year in Review...in My Personal Life

It's been the year when I celebrated my first year living in Florida, and a year of many adventures and many lessons to be learned. It's also been the type of year that when you look back, you can say..."this is only the beginning of greater things ahead!". I made decisions that made me a better person, and I also said many things I shouldn't have said. But above all, It was a year of growth and self-empowerment.

Relocation: A Photographer's Dream

I remember a year ago, when I could only think of how difficult it was for me to relocate my business...from the Caribbean, to the States, not knowing anyone around me and not having a single clue of how the market worked for the type of Photography I've been doing. It was hard. Very hard. I cried a lot, there were many nights when I couldn't sleep, and I prayed. I prayed a lot for guidance, for patience, for not wanting to give it all up. I was so frustrated with the idea of having to start from zero that It completely gave my creativity a pause, like a hard pause, with no where to begin and absolutely no mood at all to spark my creative side. No mood to try, no desire to move on, and with doubts...lots of doubts. But as the days passed, I realized that not only was relocation a new, and greater opportunity, but it was also like a dream! A dream where I could start over from the beginning and take every step that I knew how to take, but with the ability of not making the same mistakes and bad decisions that I might've made before. It was like changing my business around without any hassles or stress caused by my errors. It was a new beginning that embarked meeting new people, going on new adventures, networking in different ways and being able to show my work in many other ways than those I thought possible. I had this chance, although hard, but so very worth it! It felt just like a dream...a dream that gave me light and made me feel fearless. I am living my dream! I am starting all over again and I love every minute of it!

Oh! The Places You'll Go!

And along this journey of meeting and working with so many AMAZING people, I had the pleasure of gathering some memories of my own. Memories of really nice places that I got the chance to visit, beautiful warm sunsets, and some really cool behind the scenes images from some of the sessions I worked throughout the year. This is only a glimpse of the great memories I have on my picture vault that I've been able to capture with my iPhone. It includes some of the places and things I've enjoyed the most this year. It was my plan to capture my memories, of a full year, with just my iPhone and I can't believe I was able to achieve it, without using my professional camera. It was something I wanted to do for a very long time. I think that life is meant to be captured no matter the resolution or the technique. I've always thought that the best camera you could have is the one that you have with you, in most cases, your phone! I didn't want to miss out on anything that meant a lot to me, and I didn't want my family to feel as I would be 'working' all the time if I would go around with my professional camera all the time. In my own way, I find this meaningful. I'm really happy with all that I was able to come up with and all the memories I was able to capture. I'm so ready to capture even more on 2018, and this time around, along with my professional gear, I'll also carry my 35mm film camera. Only because I love film so much and can't wait to gather some really cool film images! Hopefully, I'll also be able to finish off with a new mirrorless 💛

I hope you all find something fascinating about 2017 that you can hold on to. I, myself, have some fascinating smiles and words of encouragement that I received from my clients, and my loved ones, that will surely take part in brighter days to come!

Cheers 🥂 to many more memories and many more smiles...Happy New Year!

xoxo, Yanitza
