From Bookclubs to Bookshelves
It was back in third grade, while living in Watauga, Texas, when I began to fall in love with reading. I joined a book club, and reading became part of my daily life. At the time, I had a pen pal who also loved reading and our letters would be filled with talks about books. In my adulthood, some of this has changed. Now, I love reading more than before, and…unfortunately, I don’t have a pen pal. Reading opens your mind to a certain degree of thinking and to many possibilities of exploring, learning, growing, and being adventurous. Books were even part of my process of coping with my father’s loss, which you can read by going to this post called 13 Inspirational Quotes That Will Change Your Life. Books are just as important as any other tools that we use in our daily life to optimize certain results.
Leadership and Self-Growth Books
I’m a huge fan of YA books! Not only because I think of myself as a young adult (😬), but also because they’re fun, adventurous, and so unique! Two of my other favorite genre of books are Leadership and Self-Growth. I remember being 19 years old, sitting on the floor playing with my baby boy and reading “Who Moved My Cheese” by Spencer Johnson. With this book I learned a lot about anticipating changes, adapting to them, and to actually enjoy changes. Even back then, reading was a powerful tool for me. I made use of this tool to grow mentally, spiritually, and to become a better person. Being at such a young age raising a baby brought many challenges for me and I was able to endure these challenges by having God in my life, having my mom’s help and support, and by reading Leadership and Self-Growth books.
Books that You Must Start Reading Today!
Quite honestly, I don’t know why I chose just 4 books to share with you when I have like 50 to recommend! Being that I narrowed this post down to just books that will help you become a better person, I must begin by sharing some easy reads to make sure that you will actually read them! It always happens that you recommend a great, life-changing book to someone, and years pass by before that person decides to actually read the book that would open up their thinking for them to make positive changes in their life. So I am here to tell you, that I narrowed down my list, just for you! When you have a short list of something, it’s very possible that you will follow, and complete it.
So here is the list of my choice of 4 Books that Will Help You Become a Better Person that You Must Start Reading Today (in no particular order).
The Four Agreements, Don Miguel Ruiz
With this book, you will learn how to transform your life following four simple codes: Be impeccable with your word, don’t make assumptions, don’t take anything personally, and always do your best. It’s very easy to read and reveals powerful insights on what you will experience when applying these codes into your life.
Attitude 101, John C. Maxwell
To me, leadership is always best learned when it’s coming from Mr. John C. Maxwell. He knows how to get your attention and truly amplify your thinking. This guide-book is a great tool to recognize how your attitude impacts your performance, and how to discover the secret of transforming a bad attitude. I suggest having your highlighter on hand for this one!
How to Win Friends and Influence People
One of my greatest leadership mentors gave this book in Spanish, and it’s the only copy that I have. Originally published in 1936, this book is definitely a treasure for anyone who is willing to make the right changes to become a better person, and mainly to be sympathetic with others’ ideas, to become a better leader, and to apply different perspectives that will also make you realize how happiness mainly relies on inward attitudes.
The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success, Deepak Chopra
This is one of my favorite personal growth books. I’ve read it both in English and Spanish, but I only have the Spanish copy with me. This book walks you through the idea of how our success is not an outcome of how hard we work or not, but rather on how we, as human beings, follow the laws of nature. These are The Law of Pure Potentiality, The Law of Giving, The Law of Karma, The Law of Least Effort, The Law of Intention and Desire, The Law of Detachment, and The Law of Dharma.
I truly believe that just as these books have been a great tool for my personal and business growth, they can also do wonders in your life. Give yourself the chance to read them and to apply them to your life. Do you have any life-changing books you would love to share? Please comment below!
