Getting Published: A Look Inside Featured Work
Starting Over and Working Harder
A year ago, while I was still working my 9 to 5, I used my spare time to evaluate ways of getting my work seen by others. Like I’ve said before, this whole relocation process has been basically just starting from zero. Along with starting over, I’ve had to work smarter in all ways possible in order to get my work seen. I am currently still working on this! It has been a long road with many obstacles and challenges but I’ve somehow managed to hold on tight and keep going. My work has always been about three main things: to have a brand that identifies with my personality, to capture emotive images, and to be an influence and inspiration for others. Training my creativity, staying up late at night to sketch my ideas, surrounding myself with amazing people, and learning how to maintain focus, has been my game changer.
Who Inspires Me?
I follow other amazing photographers who help me stay focused when I’m feeling lost or frustrated. In 2012 I flew to Las Vegas only to take classes from Jasmine Star and Sal Cincotta, and still to this day, they are my main inspiration when it comes to marketing my business. I remember speaking with Sal at the expo and he gave me tons of advice on marketing in less than 15 minutes! Also since 2012, Christine Chang, Jana Williams, and Jenna Kutcher have been my number one resource when it comes to improving my skills as a photographer. I've been able to grow with these inspiring educators who love what they do, just as I do. Being a mom and trying to build my business has gotten me through a lot of challenges since 2012. I guess starting over was part of the plan and for that I am blessed!
And it has all lead down to this! After years of workshops (which I still take), hard work, and being consistent, I can finally say that my work has been published…somewhere! Even though I have yet so much more to go, I am at the exact place that God wants me to be and for me, that is perfection! My first publication came from a project I had in mind for months before actually making it happen, and I feel super happy about it. It is about capturing nature and a woman’s beauty all in one place. My goal is to inspire others into seeing beauty as it is; as part of nature. And even if just one person fell in love with what I tried to convey, then I am far beyond grateful for the opportunity of getting published to inspire that person!
