Scheduling Newborn Pictures
As a family photographer, I’m often asked if I do newborn photography. Quite honestly, although I love babies, I can’t entirely commit to newborn photography. I’ve done newborn photos along the way in these past 6 years, but I hardly ever say that it’s something I do. For the time being, I’m only doing newborn photography on a referral basis. Nevertheless, if you happen to be interested in this type of photography, just feel free to shoot me an email and I’d be more than happy to talk to you about newborn photography. Newborn photos typically take place in your home for extra convenience and comfort, and they can last 3 - 4 hours. Pricing begins at $350.
Scheduling a newborn session during your last trimester of pregnancy is crucial. You want to make sure that the photographer has open availability for the week after your due date and at least one week before as well, just in case you’re ready to give birth earlier than planned. Newborn photos must be scheduled for 5-12 days after the baby is born. You want your baby to be able to curl and stay in a position without making a lot of movement, and most of all, you want your baby to be mostly still for the duration of the photo session. For this reason, planning ahead of time will guarantee that your newborn photos will be taken care of within the recommended time frame, being this also the safest time for your baby’s newborn pictures.
Tips For Scheduling Newborn Photography
Contact your photographer during your last trimester of pregnancy.
Schedule your newborn session for a date within 5-12 days after your due date and have a back-up date a week before (and after, just in case).
Stay in communication the whole time! Things might change, be sure to stay in touch with the photographer at all times.
Have open availability for the day of the session. Don’t make plans on the day of the session, as the time of the session will vary depending on the baby. The session typically lasts 3 - 4 hours.
Have your home ready, always keeping in mind the baby’s comfort as a priority. The temperature inside your home should be comfortable for the baby. Have plenty of cloth diapers, and all the baby’s necessities at reach on the day of the session.
If planned accordingly, newborn photography is truly an amazing experience for the new parents, and the timeless imagery of your newborn baby are without a doubt, a beautiful treasure!
