FAQ: Preparing for Engagement Sessions

Preparing for engagement sessions doesn’t have to be hard! Which is why I created the FAQ Series. It’s a compilation of some of the frequently asked questions amongst my audience and clients.

As part of this series, I previously published Things to Know before your Family Session. Being that engagement season is soon to end, and plenty of couples are now newly engaged, It kind of made sense to dedicate the second part of this series to Engagements.

Engagement sessions are a big deal. They really are. Therefore, preparing for engagement sessions is just as important as your whole wedding planning process.

It’s your first official photo shoot together after being engaged, you’ll use the photos to announce your wedding, for save the dates, for your reception, and you’ll even display them in your home. Even more so, most of the times you’ll only have one engagement session.

So, I totally understand when more than a couple of questions come to mind before booking your session. In hopes of serving you as a guide, these are the frequently asked questions I receive regarding the process of preparing for engagement sessions.


Frequently Asked Questions about Engagement Sessions

  1. “What should I wear to my engagement session?“ The most important thing about your outfit selection is to be yourself! Don’t try new styles or something you’re not used to. Mix and match accordingly, making good use of solid colors and patterns. Feel free to get ideas from What to Wear to your Photo Session.

  2. “How long does the engagement session take?” Engagement sessions take around an hour and a half to 2 hours. This provides plenty of time for outfit changes and for a variety of shots in different spots around your selected location.

  3. “How much does the engagement session cost?“ Full engagement sessions cost $350. Mini sessions take place a couple of times during the year and are also a great option to take some photos in celebration of your engagement.

  4. “I just got engaged, how long should I wait before having my engagement session done?” It’s best to have your engagement session within the next 2 months after getting engaged. This will help you focus on other things along your wedding planning journey. It also guarantees you will have the photos ready for announcements and save the dates.

  5. “How do I choose the best location for my engagement photos?” Although It might sound like an easy one, this is probably the top asked question! And the answer is actually pretty simple. Choose a location that means something to you as a couple, a place where you enjoy spending time together. It could be outdoors or indoors. The most important thing to keep in mind is that planning your session will assure amazing photos! Meaning, that if you choose an outdoor location, planning will ensure less distraction.
