The overwhelming feelings of Entrepreneurship

As a photographer and small business owner, I work long days of photo shoots and countless hours behind a monitor. But more often than not, I also tend to carry my work with me and use my phone as a primary business tool.

Running a small business is hard work. And it’s part of the overwhelming feelings of entrepreneurship. Even more so, when your team is made up of… you, and you alone! Many people around me often think that my only work is to take pictures, edit, and deliver. This is so far from the truth!

Could you really think being a photographer is that easy? And not just a photographer, a small business owner in general. I wish I was able to count ALL the times when I’m asked “what are you working on today?'‘ - like if running a business wasn’t enough!

When you’re an employee for a company, it hardly ever crosses your mind to think what the owner of the company you’re working for is doing that day. I’m pretty sure you might also think that they don’t do nothing at all.

Well, no matter the size of the business, as an owner, you will always have tons of work in order to keep your business going. And it’s your job to keep up with these tasks.

The downside of running your own business

If you’re freelancing or running a small business, you already know that no one does the work for you. It’s the downside of running your own business. It’s just what it is!

Millions of things crossing your brain and you’re looking for ways to fulfill each one of them. Trying to see if things can ‘magically’ happen and for everything to fall into place in record time. In reality, you visualize how it’s supposed to be but you have little energy and motivation to make it happen.

Well, guess what? No one can make your business except for you! It has to be you! If you’re doing this, it’s surely because you’ve dreamt about it, and you’re finally on track to make your dreams come true. You’ve always had that entrepreneurial spirit inside of you and you chose a path to become what you’ve always wanted. It’s your dream!

But your dream is only yours. You are the one that has to work the extra mile to make it happen. Therefore, it won’t come easy. You’ll experience non-desired overwhelming feelings of entrepreneurship that will make you stronger, in time. It’s an ongoing process that takes time!

The Process of becoming an Entrepreneur

Shedding tears of frustration, and having days when your brain won’t react to anything is really just the tip of the iceberg. It’s a one on one relationship with stress and anxiety. The overwhelming feelings of entrepreneurship come with pressure and disappointments.

Countless nights of thinking you’re sleeping when in reality you’re fighting with an overload of thoughts, only with your eyes closed.

You’re going to want to give up. You will want to, but you won’t! You’ll work harder, and you’ll make things happen.

This also means that you will have days when you will have to cut on some family time. And it sucks, it really does. But it’s only in the beginning. Every successful person has gone through this phase in order to build a sustainable business. When all is set and done, it will be more than worth it.

And this is my story. This is me, every day, trying to pick up the pieces to build my business to where I want it to be. To make my dreams come true, one step at a time. It’s me holding my breath to keep going, to continue what I started.

It gets better. I know this for a fact! And in this journey of being an entrepreneur, a wife, a mom, a stepmom, a daughter, and a friend, I can only be thankful that the Lord leads my way.
